Being in New England
Over our Christmas 2004 vacation we visited Ian's mom, brother, and step-father (the Ruck family) in Canaan, Connecticut. Canaan is a small sleepy town in the Northwest corner of the state. Residents have easy access to New York state and to Massachussets. Numerous rich (and some famous) people live in the area for at least part of the year.
The Rucks live 5 miles outside downtown Canaan on a 1+ acre plot in a 200+ year old house. They have two horses, three dogs, and seven cats. Although they aren't long-time country-folk, they have lived in rural areas for a good number of years now. They rarely get down to the City. They enjoy their quiet, pastoral existence.
Ian and I had been talking for years about going down to the City with Thomas for years, but had not yet made it happen. The last time they'd gone as a family was before I was close enough to Ian to be visiting his family. Finally this year we just decided it would happen.
Here is the story of our trip: New York City
