Interesting Happenings
It was an overcast day, and kind of cold. This was my first opportunity to wear my new fall cycling jersey. I rode past the Webster Township Fall Festival twice. It was very strange to see people out in a field doing festival-like things on such a gloomy day.
Almost at the end of my ride, I got a nice little unexpected thrill. I had slowed down while looking at my cyclometer to try to compute what time it must be based on when I'd left and how long I'd been out. I was passed by a very tall man on a pink bike. His colors were mine - red on top and black shorts. His legs were very muscular.
I knew he'd caught me "napping", so I wasn't going to let this go. I sped up, and before long had caught up to him. I probably could have passed him, but we were coming up to a hill, and he seemed unaware that I was tailing him, so it wasn't exactly a fair race. But after we crested the hill, he noticed me. So any race left in this ride was from the end of Huron River Drive to North Main into town.
He probably would have lost me except that he was turning off early and had to slow down to turn left in front of traffic. But it was fun while it lasted!
Impressions of Ride
This is the longest ride I've taken since my accident. It felt fine - I felt strong, and did not feel tired afterwards. I did, however, experience anxiety about the jump at the bridge where my accident took place before I even began my ride. Fear so far in advance was disconcerting - I hoped it was not going to be a trend. The jump itself went fine, although I did not enjoy it. I guess it's going to be a long time before I really get over that trauma.
